Operation Christmas Child - delivery

What a wonderful day yesterday. Our church wrapped and packed 58 boxes for Operation Christmas Child. Today, I will bring them to a larger collection spot so that they can begin their journey toward a child in need. This has been a tremendous way to start the holiday season. The focus turns toward giving rather than receiving.

On that note, our church has decided to use months with a fifth Sunday to do special service projects. However, we need some ideas. I would love to tap into your ideas on ways to give service. With what groups do you work with? How do you give service? I appreciate any ideas.

This is the first time in about 10 years that I did NOT do a shoe box for Christmas. I have several other projects that I am working on this year, so something had to go. But it feels strange...
Glad to hear you had such success at your church! Ever thought about writing letters to deployed soldiers? Sending them little pieces of home, toys to hand out on patrol, gum, toothpaste, etc - there are all kinds of links giving suggestions of things they need in the desert, and how and where to send it. (Usually a chaplain is a distribution point)
Of course, this service idea runs close to my heart!

We are actually looking to do that for a friend who is deployed over there. You are right that this is a great way to celebrate the holidays by thanking those that provide us with the freedom and safety to be in our homes and with our families.
